this is how I make sinigang when I’m not close to an Asian grocery store.
I always keep tamarind packets and fish sauce at home, and the rest are ingredients I can grab from any regular grocery store.
it’s one of those meals I grew up with, and this version makes it easy to recreate whenever I’m craving it, no matter where I am
🛒 Ingredients
- 1 lb salmon, sliced
- 1/2 white onion, chopped
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2–3 tbsp fish sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 packet tamarind soup base powder
- green beans (handful or to preference)
- 1 bag spinach
Optional (for serving):
- rice
- chili
- extra fish sauce
👩🍳 Directions
- In a pan, heat oil over medium heat.
- Add onion and tomato, sauté until softened.
- Pour in water and bring to a simmer.
- Add salmon, tamarind soup base, and fish sauce.
- Let cook until the salmon starts to turn light pink and is almost done.
- Add green beans and spinach.
- Cook for another few minutes until vegetables are tender.
