Crispy fries, melted cheese, BBQ mushroom pulled pork, spicy mayo, and all the toppings!
Sometimes you’re just craving a big plate of loaded fries, and this time I wanted to make something a little different.
I found MyPulledPork from MyForestFoods at Sprouts and thought, why not turn it into loaded BBQ fries?
Here’s the fun part: the pulled pork isn’t actually pork! It’s made from oyster mushroom mycelium, giving it a surprisingly meaty texture without using meat.
I also found Sonic fries at Smart & Final, which made putting everything together even easier.
The result? Crispy fries topped with cheesy, smoky, saucy goodness, finished with pickled jalapeños, crispy fried onions, and fresh parsley.
This is exactly my kind of Diet AND Fries meal!
Why You’ll Love These Loaded Fries

Ingredients
For the loaded fries:
- 1 bag Sonic frozen fries (found at Smart & Final)
- 1 package MyForestFoods MyPulledPork (found at Sprouts)
- ½–1 cup shredded cheese, or enough to cover the fries
- 2–3 tablespoons BBQ sauce

- 2 tablespoons crispy fried onions
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
For the spicy mayo:
- 3 tablespoons Kewpie mayonnaise
- 1–2 teaspoons sriracha, depending on your spice preference
How to Make Loaded BBQ Mushroom Fries
Step 1: Air Fry the Fries
Place the frozen Sonic fries in your air fryer and cook for approximately 15 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Shake the basket halfway through for even cooking.
Step 2: Cook the Mushroom Pulled Pork
While the fries cook, prepare MyPulledPork according to the package instructions. Heat until warmed through and lightly browned.
Step 3: Make the Spicy Mayo
In a small bowl, mix Kewpie mayonnaise with sriracha until smooth. Adjust the heat to your liking.
Step 4: Add the Cheese
Transfer the crispy fries to a serving plate. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the fries and allow it to melt. If needed, briefly return the fries to the air fryer in an air-fryer-safe dish.
Step 5: Load Up the Fries
Pile the warm mushroom pulled pork over the cheesy fries.
Drizzle with BBQ sauce and homemade spicy mayo.
Step 6: Finish with the Toppings
Add pickled jalapeños, crispy fried onions, and freshly chopped parsley.
Serve immediately while everything is warm and crispy!
My Tips for the Best Loaded Fries
Get the fries extra crispy. Since we’re adding sauces and toppings, starting with crispy fries helps prevent them from getting soggy.
Don’t skip the crispy fried onions. They add another layer of crunch that makes these fries even better.
Make the spicy mayo your own. More sriracha means more heat, while extra Kewpie makes it creamier.
Serve right away. Loaded fries are always best fresh!
Can You Make These Completely Meatless?
Absolutely! The MyPulledPork is mushroom-based, so you get that pulled pork-style texture without using meat.
The recipe is vegetarian when made with vegetarian-friendly cheese and sauces. For a completely plant-based version, use dairy-free cheese and vegan mayonnaise, and check your BBQ sauce ingredients.
